➡️ Try It Yourself:
All you need is some Aluminum cola/pop cans or pipe, and copper wire or pipes. You can also use Zinc instead of the Aluminum. The more salt or acid you put in the water, the stronger the battery will be but, the faster it will corrode and break down the metals. Please post your results in the comments so we can see your project!

➡️ Helpful Battery Information:
The same principles apply to making and lemon battery or potato battery. You just need two dissimilar metals like copper and aluminum, used in this video, and an electrolyte like sodium (table salt) or Epsom salts, or an acid like lemon juice, vinegar, or other common battery acid. Making your own battery is actually fairly simple. You just need two metals separated buy a thin insulator like paper, or by your electrolyte fluid. Then connect the positive and negative terminals to each metal. The more surface area you have touching the electrolyte or acid, the more amps you get. The more of these cells that you wire together in series, the more voltage you get. 12 volt car batteries for example, have hundreds of thin lead plates inside each cell. Then each cell inside the car battery is wired together in series to increase voltage. Those plates are what hold the charge. Each pole on the battery is connected to the positive or negative end the chain of battery cells, wired in series, inside the battery. Another example is a 9-volt battery used for devices around the home, such as smoke alarms, remote controls for RC cars, walkie talkies, and much more. These 9 volt batteries usually have six cells inside of them that equal about 1.5 volts each to give you the 9 volts required for your device.

Allan Romero says:

Hi My son tried it and was able to produced 3.5 volts on 9 cans but unable to power up a 2.2volts light from an old flashlight. Light works when we are using a 2pcs of AA 1.5v battery. Any other suggestions?

alberto valerio says:

I’m amazed good job

Wasim Ullah says:

the salt NaCl ionizes in water to form Na+ and Cl- and the sand holds Nacl.copper is +ve and tin is -ve because of valencies.thats the science behind this.

N A says:

Wow good job

Richard Johnson says:

Wow we can create some electricity from the Earth soil….

John Smithllc says:

You should probably wear gloves cutting the can

Dominic Huntley says:

Would it generate more volts and milliamps if you used a liquid that was more acidic or to stay with the salt water?

tonydfixer says:

Too fast no explanation.

It might be Kaxsky says:

I feel like you could make these much stronger for the amount of space in a soda can. Maybe by adding citric acid or Gatorade to the battery instead of salt water.

MrFreddiew1 says:

Nice kids project. Tip. All Alu cans are coated inside, rough up the inside of the can with a wire brush on a drill to maximise the alu surface area, increase the copper wire diameter and amount of coils, more copper equals more amps.

absolute madlad says:

how many volts will one can give

Arewe Done says:

Excellent family time video. Enjoy and cherish the time with your kids. Best wishes.

Robert Polito says:

You should use a wire screen over the spring and real battery aid from the auto part store. battery aid cost $10 a pint

how about using pee?

homayoun Shirazi says:

The inside lining of soda cans, if sanded off, should give you 0.9 volts. I did it without first sanding it and then after sanding it. It was 15% improvement in voltage.
