i am close to 60 now and remember the days when a person would take their shoes, radios, TV, vacuum cleaner, or other household appliances (even toasters!) to the repair shop and get them fixed to continue using them (if we didn’t fix it ourselves). now most everything is “throw-away” and it disturbs me greatly when so many are complaining that us “older” people are accused of making a mess of the landfills. where i was raised, we seldom took our trash to the landfill, maybe once every six weeks or so we would have a truck full of items that we had not found another use for or were not able to repair. (i’m from a family of 6 children!)
