Why the shellac?
I noticed that you sealed the chalk paint with 2 coats of wax, letting the first coat dry completely. Most of the tutorials I have watched have applied the wax and then wiped it off. Why does the technique vary? Does it depend on what type of wax?
Its good the second time as well. I have a question. When distressing to get that antique look do you do that before or after you apply the wax?
Your table looks fabulous. great video.
Can I ask a question about the polyurethane top coat? I really want a matte finish on my table and I am having a difficult time finding an oil-based polyurethane in matte. Can I use a water-based poly with this technique?
Great tutorial! I’m in the middle of a similar project and wanted to stain my table top, but as I was finishing sanding, I realized it was a veneer layer not real wood. Can I still use the gel stain on the veneer table top even though I sanded down to some unsightly “particle board?”
Did you say you cleaned off oils and dirt before you started? What do you clean it with? how long do you have to wait to stain?
So where can we buy this General Finish Java gel stain in Dallas, TX
Where do you buy your paint and stain gel?
I like your channel, keep up the cool work! I make similar videos too 🙂
Can i use the Java Gel stain on a veneer finish table top?
The table looks fabulous.
Is the gel stain safe to apply on a babies crib?
How long did you wait until applying second coat of java gel. Most say wait 24 hours but it seems like you did right away and the end results were awesome!
hi I have a table set that was given to me, it’s in good condition. but the table has a lot of stretches. do I sand the tables and chairs first then do what you did
Omg I just love love the way you did this table ! Can you please tell me , did you put something over the get stain in Java to give it that shine? Or is that just from the gel stain itself ! I’m so loving the look !
What gloss finish did you use on the table top please
So you don’t need to wipe the wax off a bit after applying?
great, I love to watch how easy you make the projects.
Thnx for showing this video, I have a question, I have a Bassett original dining table 8 chairs, 3 extensions a hutch, and a buffet side credenza, can I use the same techniques you used for this project, right now the color is the same shade as your pre finished color of the table, looking forward to your encouragement, thnx for sharing, Myrleen ..
Hi great video. Did you sand the top of the table before you applied the gel stain? Thanks.
Really nice .where do you get that paint?
Thanks
Awesome
If you don’t mind, I noticed that you sell your redone pieces. Do you de well with it? How do you know what pieces will sell? Table turned out great btw!
I painted my chairs and didn’t wax right away, now there are fingerprints and grease spots, should I totally repaint or what can I do?
con ganas das buenas ideas me gusta el video salidos
Your too sexy
The table looks fabulous.our Arterki can give you surprise
I love your tutorials!! I am nervous to tackle my dining room set.. it’s cherry and it’s just an eye sore for me.. This is exactly what I want to do to..The tops of both the table and buffet are shiny (not exactly sure of the finish). Do you recommend that I strip the tops down to its natural wood before applying the gel stain? Thanks for your help!
did you sand down the table?
That looks great! do you sand the finish off before you paint?
Looks awesome, doing the same thing with our dining set, java gel on the top and annie sloan chalk paint and clear wax on the base.
Where did you get the wax from?
How many coats on the top with the java gel? I want to do our kitchen dining set.
Looks great!
Wow, looks GREAT! Was that table top formica (looks like a table my mother has); or did it have a finish that had to be removed? I have a very old oak table similar — it has a heavy clear finish (my in-laws redid it, it gets heavy kitchen traffic). Can you stain over that — or, like the pedestal, can you hit it with the shellac to get the paint to stick, etc.? I love that dark stain! Thanks!! Oh, the wax . . . can you get that at, say, Lowe’s/Depot? And, you said it seals out water?? Thanks again!
Hi Brittaney, just wondering would sanding the table with an electric sander before applying the paint be better. I’m planning to refinish an old dining table and it looks almost identical to the one you did in the video and it will be my first DIY project. please kindly advise. your help is much appreciated!
Do I need to spray the top of the table with shellac before applying the Java gel stain?
