DIY Furniture Make-Over With Homemade Chalk Paint

I painted this Henredon dresser/console again using some very old paint. I made homemade chalk paint using the old paint. I also updated the hardware with metallic spray paint.

Homemade Chalk Paint Recipe
2 oz of Plaster of Paris
2 oz of Water
12 oz of Paint (Your Choice)

Paint (Your Choice)
Paint Brushes (For paintings and touch-ups)
Minwax Dark Wax Paste
Minwax Natural Wax Paste
Screwdriver to remove hardware
Hammer (optional)
Lint free cloth for buffing
Measuring Cup (You will need one that measures ounces.)
Something to stir your plaster mixture and paint

Which color did u use? The Napoleonic Blue?
And, do you think this works also on the surface of IKEA furniture which are covered by white foil ( you know what I mean? The typical white IKEA furniture, they are all covered with this cheap foil).
Thank you!

Question:  After watching your “mixing your own chalk paint” video, I’ve concluded there’s lots of ingredients/prep work involved.  Can OTC chalk paint be purchased and is it as good as a home-made version?  I only want to paint a 3-drawer dresser.

Creating My New Life with Style says:

thank you for replying back to me. the question was for a wicker dresser . I’m going to stick with the spray paint ideal I forgot that you have to use wax. thank you

MoiraG says:

when applying the chalk paint, does it really matter how careful I am, or just paint away?? Thank you. Great job on this piece, it is beautiful. ♥
